Rapid risk assessment: Ebola virus disease outbreak in North Kivu and Ituri Provinces, Democratic Republic of the Congo – second update
Date of publication: 21 December 2018This is the second update of a rapid risk assessment originally produced on 9 August 2018. This rapid risk assessment addresses the public health risk associated with the current Ebola virus disease (EVD) outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and its implications for EU/EEA citizens. This update was triggered by the persistence of the EVD transmission in urban areas, reported challenges in documenting chains of transmission and the recent upsurge of clusters of EVD cases surrounding geographically dispersed rural areas in DRC.Second update available from the ECDC website

Catalogue of courses on prevention and control of communicable diseases
Date of publication: 18 December 2018ECDC and the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER) have agreed to collaborate in the training of public health professionals in competencies for prevention and control of communicable diseases. Public health guidance on screening and vaccination for infectious diseases in newly arrived migrants within the EU/EEA
Date of publication: 5 December 2018The main objective of this guidance is to provide scientific advice, based on an evidence-based assessment of targeted public health interventions, to facilitate effective screening and vaccination for priority infectious diseases among newly arrived migrant populations to the EU/EEA. Seasonal influenza vaccination and antiviral use in EU/EEA Member States
Date of publication: 18 December 2018A survey was circulated in January 2018 to provide an update on seasonal influenza immunisation policies in 2017– 18 and obtain vaccination coverage rates in EU/EEA Member States for the 2015–16, 2016–17 and 2017-18 (if available) influenza seasons. In addition, the survey mapped methods of monitoring vaccination coverage, vaccine dose number procured, payment mechanisms for vaccine and vaccine administration, vaccine products recommended by population groups and complementary antiviral use for treatment or prophylaxis in vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals.Available from the ECDC website
 

 

Hepatitis B and C testing strategies in healthcare and community settings in the EU/EEA
Date of publication: 11 December 2018The scope of this project was to provide an overview of different effective testing strategies for hepatitis B and C and their outcomes in the EU/EEA, covering all relevant population groups and settings. Best practice recommendations for conducting after-action reviews to enhance public health preparedness
Date of publication: 5 December 2018An integral part of improving preparedness and response planning is learning from past public health emergencies. Conducting after-action reviews (AARs) is a way of capturing such learnings, but there is no standardised approach to conducting such assessments. In order to support public health practitioners in making the best use of AARs, this ECDC technical report identifies common features of AARs, provides a validity assessment tool to appraise them, and proposes a set of best practice recommendations.Available from the ECDC website

Influenza virus characterisation, Summary Europe
Date of publication: 11 and 17 December 2018The ECDC Influenza Virus Characterisations Reports are published periodically. The report provides an overview of the technical details of the circulating influenza viruses, such as antigenic and genetic properties, with a reference to the current vaccine strains. It also summaries the developments of the viruses since the last report, as well as the main developments for the ongoing season. Monthly measles and rubella monitoring report, December 2018
Date of publication: 14 December 2018ECDC reports monthly on measles and rubella surveillance data submitted by 30 EU/EEA countries to the European Surveillance System (TESSy). This report is based on surveillance data reported to TESSy.
