October 14, 2014
PHILADELPHIA — Helen Boucher, MD, of Tufts Medical Center and a member of the IDSA board of directors, reviews several presentations at IDWeek 2014 that focused on antibiotic resistance. These included research of predictors of the recurrence of Staphylococcus aureus; local epidemiology of multidrug-resistant bacteria; strategies of diagnosing and treating Clostridium difficile; new antibiotics in the pipeline; and environmental cleaning and disinfection.
Boucher also highlights a session on resistance to last-resort antibiotics, which was dedicated to Robert C. Moellering, MD, a past president of IDSA and respected leader in infectious disease, who died this year.
