Hulten, PhD, of Baylor College of Medicine, reviews her study on the virulence genes commonly found in isolates recovered from children since the introduction of the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine. Hulten and colleagues identified six out of 15 protein-encoding genes as potential vaccine candidates.
